Abstract:
A secure and sustainable nation is a complex concept that needed to be approached from diverse and various dimensions of the nation economy. This paper reviews smart health care as a desirable component required for a secure and sustainable nation. The review focused on the concept of smart health care, the requirements for smart health care, and the extent to which Nigeria is infrastructurally ready for the deployment of the laudable technologies needed to deliver smart healthcare services to her citizenry. In the review, it was discovered that, smart health care systems run on a combination of various technologies which include; Internet-of-Things, Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning), Cloud Computing, Blockchain technology, Big Data, and High speed mobile networks. In the case of Nigeria, the review observed that the nation lacks adequate network coverage for the delivery of smart healthcare services in most rural areas where health care needs are at the apex. The paper recommends that efforts should be expedited in the area of extending modern mobile communication infrastructure to the rural areas as to enhance a reasonable deployment of smart health care services in both urban and rural areas.
