ABSTRACT:
To meet the 21st century digital learning environment and requirement, Nigeria and most sub-Saharan Africa countries would require a comprehensive reworking and overhaul of their current curriculum of education to integrate technological innovations and Inventions into their main stream educational program through early adoption of scientific methodology. Such methodology will require hybridization of the current teaching procedures and practices in addition to several other scientific approaches. Early adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things(IoTs), Cloud Computing and Software Innovations will offer potential leverage in the production of scientific knowledge in the 21st century digital classroom management using mobile android computing devices . The Android Operating System (OS) for mobile devices is adapted to primarily provide perceptions for touchscreen devices configuration, cell phones, tablets and other android accessories. Like any other operating system design, android will enable the digital natives to manipulate mobile devices intuitively, with finger movements that mirror common motions, such as pinching, swiping, and tapping. Availability of android low-priced hardware and software will offer possibilities that guarantee convenience to use bench-marked software applications that meet the precise needs for educational activities . This paper takes a look at the current contributions of the android technology in the development of teaching and learning methodologies and also models the possibilities for adaptation to education in the current technological age to address the contemporary educational requirements of Nigeria and Sub Saharan Africa . With multiplicity of features offered by the smart phones, allowing people to access information effortlessly as needed, this research will essentially harness the vast resources of android device and rework it to adapt and suite the educational requirements for learning particularly in developing countries. The overall essence of this research is to re-examine the use of android OS, hardware and apps as a learning medium that supports active learning in the 21st century digital space and to investigate the impact of the continued investment in the use of android
Smartphones in the learning process in Nigeria and Sub Saharan Africa. The paper discovered a gap between technology performance, technology availability and technology utilization within the context educational realization.
