An End-To-End Encrypted Real-Time Multimedia Messaging Service System for Unicast and Multicast Communication

Abstract

Communication is as old as mankind and is extremely vital to human survival. As time passed, humanity evolved, so did our tools and technologies. Now, in this fast-paced world, we live in, information must be transmitted securely, as fast as possible, and without transmission delays; hence the advent of real-time communication. However, security breaches in the telecommunications industry have increased in recent years. These security breaches expose users' private information to malicious actors who can then use such for nefarious activities. The inadequacy of indigenous end-to-end encrypted real-time multimedia messaging service systems implementing cipher algorithms is also an issue for the security of messaging communications on mobile devices. To help solve this problem, an end-to-end encrypted real-time multimedia messaging system is proposed. The system utilizes ElectronJS, a framework that employs JavaScript to create native cross-platform desktop applications, ReactJS, a JavaScript library, to create the desktop client application, NodeJS for the server side, the Google Firebase real-time database service, and Socket.io for bidirectional and low-latency communication between the components. It employs the RSA (Rivest-Shamir-Adleman) algorithm for encryption and decryption purposes. It is recommended that the methodology employed be utilized for real-time encryption of multimedia messages for unicast and multicast communication.
