An Improved AQM Design for Enhancing QoS in Network Routers
Abstract:
The premier Random Early Detection (RED) algorithm in the class of active queue management (AQM) oriented towards congestion control at network routers has gained a compelling attention in recent years. Pitifully, the queue stability and improved delay achievable with the linear dropping function (appearing as a notable focal point in RED’s design) are limited. The merits of a mixed dropping function over a single dropping function becomes more impressive as the demand for an improved and efficient dropping-function based AQM algorithm are still on the upswing. As a matter of fact, lots of scientists have proposed a substantial variety of efforts. To this end, in response to the mentioned problems of RED, the RED with Trilateral Dropping Algorithm, referenced by the acronym “RED-TD” is presented in this paper. Specifically, RED-TD embellish the dropping function implementation of RED in network routers. Experiments in ns-3 simulator demonstrated that the performance of RED-TD surpasses two baseline algorithms.
