ABSTRACT:
There are various methods in literatures for industrial chemical process design and control. The control processes uses computational algorithms developed with the aid of computer systems. These computational algorithms can be a conventional control strategy, which is the Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) controller can easily be implemented, or an intelligent control technique in which case a Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) can be applied. However, so many other techniques are available in literatures such as cascade control, optimal control, combination optimization techniques such as Particle Swam Optimization (PSO) with PID, hybrid combination of conventional and intelligent control algorithms such as fuzzy-PID, combination of intelligent control algorithms such as neuro-fuzzy, Model Predict Control (MPC) and so on. The abilities of these methods to address the common problems such as time delays, constraints, perturbations, and uncertainty in model, associated with industrial chemical processes make them worthwhile. The progresses achieved in recent times in handling of chemical process by these computational control algorithms are encouraging and significant. In this paper, a review of different computational control techniques industrial chemical process has been discussed. The study focused on application of computational techniques in Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR).
