COMPREHENSIVE PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS AND DELAY AWARE POWER SAVING SCHEME (DAPSS) IN WIRELESS NETWORKS

ABSTRACT

Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is one of the wireless technologies that support small businesses and metropolitan area networks with economic distribution at high data- rate for Power savings. Powers saving classes are employed to improve efficiency of Mobile Stations (MS). Since, MS are battery dependent devices with limited life enforced. Several schemes have been proposed to address challenges of mobile battery efficiency. However, most schemes do not capture the actual varying traffic characteristics, which results to Poor QoS as lengthier sleep intervals, results in high consumption, congestion and mostly buffer overrun. Thus, Comprehensive performance analysis and a Delay Aware Power Saving Scheme (DAPSS) is proposed to reduce the prolonged delay and improve the QoS. The proposed DAPSS analytically modeled the sleep parameters ‘taking an average sleep interval to reduce the larger sleep intervals used; in addition, Mat-lab Simulator was used to evaluate the performance of the proposed DAPSS. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed scheme achieves better battery efficiency as well as QoS.
