DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF A SOLAR-BASED AUTOMATION LAWN MOWER ROBOTICS SYSTEM
ABSTRACT
A lawnmower is a machine that is used for cutting and trimming grasses which is majorly been operated manually. The major purpose of this project is to introduce the use of solar power for the operation of a lawnmower automatically without any manual aids for its operation, which is incorporated with some special features that make it more effective such as obstacles avoidance, reliability, high capability of complete mechanized grass cutting, and no use of fossil fuel. The structure of the solar-based automatic lawnmower requires a couple of 12V batteries to initiate the motor of the blade and for the movement of the machine. The principle of this paper is to study and redefine the art of robotic lawnmowers to highlight the need and capabilities of today’s devices. This project involves the use of a solar board (solar panel) to charge the battery of the lawnmower and robot motors are interfaced to an Arduino Uno which governs the implementation of each motor, in addition to the use of the ultrasonic sensor for obstacle recognition and IR sensors for stopping the vehicle. The prototype was designed and built with components that have been carefully selected to reduce cost, weight, and power consumption to achieve an efficient design, it has been tested and confirmed to be feasible both physical and financially. This work was done to demonstrate its application in lawnmowers.
