ABSTRACT:
The advent of wireless technology along with other communication techniques has helped in making electronic commerce very popular. This has improved on the comfort, convenience and efficiency of consumers in our everyday life. This paper proposes an innovational concept of products sales in supermarket using barcode. The study deals with proffering solutions to some supermarket problems such as: tracking of product sales, eliminating data entering errors, optimizing work coverage for the user and simplifying product sales process. The aim of the project is to develop a technology oriented application to enhance sales in supermarkets through the use of product barcodes. The idea is to assist customers and sellers in everyday shopping by reducing the time spent by a customer in purchasing a product and to enable the shop owner keep a centralized record on a computer system that tracks products, prices and stock level. This system seeks to provide a technology oriented, low cost, and easily scalable system to enhance shopping. In addition to its unique features, it displays the prices, discount and total bills to the customers. Object Oriented Analysis and Design Methodology (OOAD) was used for analysis of the system and Unified Modelling Language (UML) was used as a modeling tool. The system was implemented using HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL. The application designed and implemented was able to achieve the stated objectives which boost shopping processes in supermarkets.
