ABSTRACT:
Rotational thrift collection schemes are traditional micro-savings scheme in which participants make regular contributions to a common pool given to each participant in rotation. Thrift collection schemes are prevalent among associates where distance may be a barrier for participation. Development of a novel bilingual (English and Yoruba) mobile based rotational thrift collection system that will cater for the modern “Ajo” is the thesis of this work. This is with a view to provide a means for local participation in thrift collection schemes without the limitation of physical distance and language. The system was designed using use case and class diagrams. The system was sectioned into three separate components namely the mobile client, application programming interface and the cloud based server. The mobile client was implemented using XML and Java programming language while the Application Programming Interface was implemented using the Node.Js scripting language and the cloud based server was implemented as a NoSQL database using MongoDb. The developed system was evaluated and result shows that the system is easy to use as it is user friendly but the performance is to be improved upon.
