ABSTRACT:
Advancement in technology has made businesses shift from physical shopping, email, and cell phone demand to e-commerce. Technology advancement especially in the area of electronic commerce and the Internet enhanced the use of electronic payment globally. Unfortunately, check and cash transactions are still extensively practiced in developing countries. This study devised an alternative system for online fees payment and efficient electronic documentation (e.g., school fees, faculty due, etc.) in Nigerian higher institutions or organizations. The fee payment process is usually characterized by a very long queue leading to students waiting too long in a queue and as well take the risk of losing the money. It may also involve transport fare to a bank, loss of bank teller, and even loss of life. Delay in school fees payment has also denied students from getting their desired hostel during a new academic session. The study aims to effectively process students’ fees payment, provide an automated receipt for all successful payments, provide an efficient electronic fee payment record, and finally eliminate errors associated with the traditional payment system. The system is designed with Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) methodology with unified modeling Language (UML) as an analysis tool. The system was implemented with HTML, CSS, PHP Framework (Laravel) and MySQL, sublime text (as its text editor), and WampServer (as its local server). This application was able to achieve its goals and serves as an effective means of documenting fees payment.
