EFFECT OF INTELLIGENT TUTORING SYSTEM ON EDUCATION
ABSTRACT
Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs) are an area of artificial intelligence in education that supports personalized teaching and learning. ITS allows teachers/lecturers to provide customized educational materials to the students while they learn a particular domain of knowledge at their own desired time without human intervention. This research investigated the effect of ITS on the academic performance of students learning the concept of computer programming through ITS and traditional/conventional methods. This was conducted by the fresh ND I students from the Department of Computer Science, Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari, during the school year 2021-2022 at the treatment of 12 weeks. A quasi-experimental design was adopted to compare the performance of the experimental and control groups. One null hypothesis was tested at the 0.05 alpha level of significance using statistical procedures. The null hypotheses were rejected at p-val = .026. The findings revealed that the experimental group performed better with a mean = 39.00 than the control group with a mean = 33.23.
