Improving Food Security in Nigeria Through Smart Agriculture: A Case Study of Rice Leaf Disease Classification

ABSTRACT

In Nigeria, Agriculture has been the source of livelihood yielding sustainable development across the country. However, Agricultural System in Nigeria has been jeopardized by lack of automated and smart system of agricultural operations but this paper tends to proffer solutions through Smart Agriculture. This paper aims to develop rice leaf disease classification model that will be used to improve food security in Nigeria and it will be achieved by using an Ensemble Model (VGG 16 and VGG 19) for feature extraction and image classification which will serve as smart agriculture in improving food security in Nigeria Agricultural Sector against rice leaf diseases. The proposed model achieved a very high accuracy of 99.83%.
