ABSTRACT:
A number of digital platforms abound in our present day society both in the private and the public sectors of our economy that are generating huge amount of data every second of everyday of our life. These data has a lot of effect, one way or the other, on the quality of life of every individual in the society. In some aspects, some of these data are almost as important as the air we breathe. Most of these data are hidden from the direct beneficiaries of the data; especially in the public sector of our economy. Our focus in this write-up is going to be on public data known as government data
Government and citizens take a lot of policy initiatives based on these data. Therefore, in all fairness these data should be as open enough to public consumption as possible. We are going to elucidate what open data and open government as well as digital platform for its implementation are all about, A cursory look at some OGD implementation around the globe will be used to drive home the immense benefit derivable from OGD.
