SAFETYNET: A COLLABORATIVE AND PRIVACY-PRESERVING MOBILE SAFETY APPLICATION SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

Personal safety concerns continue to rise globally, with increasing incidents of assault, domestic violence, and kidnappings highlighting the limitations and inefficiencies of current safety applications. This paper presents a collaborative, robust and privacy-preserving mobile safety application system. The system explores a community-driven approach to emergency response. Developed using Agile development methodology with the Flutter framework with Dart as the programming language, and Firebase as the backend, the system allows users to live stream video and audio making their emergency visible to pre-selected emergency contacts and anyone online at the time. Live location tracking enables nearby individuals to assist before professional responders arrive. Performance testing showed a real-time response time of 280ms and 90% emergency detection accuracy. User feedback indicated 85% satisfaction with the application's usability in emergencies. This research contributes to integrating technology into public security efforts and serves as a foundation for future advancements in decentralized emergency response systems, ensuring a more immediate, collaborative, and effective approach to personal safety.
