Automated Multi Language Framework for Coding Assessment and Feedback

Abstract

Programming skills are now indispensable in the contemporary software business and there is an immediate need to devise ways of assessing the capacity of st udents in programming tasks in learning settings. Even the pen and paper tests are subjective and not effective. They cannot simulate the real world programming environment that is required in the development of real world software. The present programming examination technique at the Department of Computer Sciences (DCS), University of Lagos is not time and manpower efficient, and it fails to effect ively show the practical skills on an industry level. In a bid to overcome these problems, this paper proposes a web based secure system, which will be developed on the basis of needs at DCS referred to as multi language programming assessment system (MPA S). MPAS is compatible with several different programming languages, authenticates with other systems and offers automated and manual grading, along with real time execution of programs. It also comes with certain security measures, including focus trackin g, webcam and screen monitoring, kiosk mode (full screen enforcement, limited navigation, restricted clipboard actions) and extensive activity logging to maintain academic integrity . The integration of these features helps to reduce administrative workload for instructors, while improving student experience, efficiency, scalability, and fairness.
