Design and Development of Internet of Things-Based Physical Office Security System

ABSTRACT

Traditionally, physical-security measures in offices relied on keys, burglary-proof and security men especially in underdeveloped countries. These lacked continuous and reliable real-time monitoring and intrusion detection abilities. Recently, the rise of technology, particularly Internet of Things (IoT) has initiated the use of automated security systems that ensure real-time monitoring and intrusion detection.

IoT-based physical office security (POS) system aims to design and implement a smart office security system to monitor offices and report security breaches, by using dual motion sensors to identify a real intruder from a passer-by or animal. This platform integrates infrared sensors, vibration sensors, light dependent resistor, GSM module and Arduino uno development board into an office security system. The device will spot an intruder within a monitored area in the environment using an ultrasonic sensor and Arduino Uno with a GSM module in an IoT environment. The methodology employed in the project is Object Oriented Analysis and design methodology, and the Unified Modelling Language (UML) tools like class, activity, and use case diagrams were used. The system prioritizes accurate and all-round, real-time monitoring and fast communication to ensure security at the office. Likewise, this initiative promises improved security at the office, at a highly affordable cost, using easily accessible materials.
