ONLINE LEARNING EXPERIENCES DURING SCHOOLS LOCKDOWN: CASE OF STUDENTS IN A NIGERIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION

ABSTRACT

Recently, learning experiences have taken on a new dimension in Nigeria and worldwide, resolving into a virtual learning method representing real classroom scenarios. As a result, students are required to learn in a unique dimension that adopts the use of technology. This article, therefore, investigated a case of polytechnic students' experiences of learning in online learning engagement during the lockdown period in Nigeria. Data were gathered using course evaluation that includes learning reflections and analyzed qualitatively to understand students' online learning experiences. According to the findings, the students experienced obstacles such as inconsistent Internet communication, irregular power supply, and high cost of Internet data bundles. On the other hand, students were able to learn using technology and were excited about experiencing learning online. Finally, Online learning was recommended as a viable alternative to face-to-face learning provided government, school administrators, and parents put in enough resources to promote learning through technology communications.
