ABSTRACT:
With the growth of needs for access of heterogeneous data on the Web, the need for information retrieval systems using indigenous language has also increased. This has motivated development of various Cross Language Retrieval researches in recent Years. Cross-language information retrieval (CLIR) is a retrieval process where queries in one language are used to retrieve information in different language. This paper proposed a Hausa-English cross language retrieval approach. Although works on Hausa-English CLIR were presented in recent studies, due to the complex nature of natural language, the area remain subject to research. The proposed approach will enable users use Hausa language query to retrieve English document using bilingual dictionaries approach.
